Occupational Health Supervisor

PBF Energy Inc. (NYSE:PBF), one of the largest independent refiners in North America, has an immediate need at Torrance Refinery Company located in Torrance, CA for a talented Occupational Health Supervisor

The Occupational Health Supervisor is responsible for all activities of the Medical Department as well as providing hands-on prompt, reliable, and accurate administrative services and technical support to the site at an advanced level with minimal supervision and strict confidentiality.


  • Provides clinical services within the professional scope and standards of practice specific to the health care of employees
  • Acts as site lead Occupational Health contact and must be available for consultation by telephone during evenings and weekends
  • Performs Physical Examinations and Medical Evaluations for Fitness to Work, Medical Surveillance, Return to Work, Pre-Placement, Injuries, Illnesses, and Medical Emergencies
  • Manages disability cases for employee personal and work-related illnesses and injuries. Communicates with the Employee, Medical Providers, Management, and Human Resources
  • Supports Site Health Incident Reporting, Recording and Investigation
  • Assists Medical Clinicians by providing technical assistance to employees while performing drug and alcohol screening, phlebotomies, pulmonary function testing, respirator fit testing, vision screening, audiograms, and health assessments as needed
  • Advises employees on prevention of illness and injury
  • Provides emergency first aid treatment for injury and illness
  • Ensures completion and accuracy of quality assurance measures
  • Oversees the site's Substance Abuse Program and Medical Surveillance/Fitness for Duty Program
  • Maintains ownership of the Blood-Borne Pathogen Exposure Control program, Medical Waste Disposal Program, and Business Continuity Plan
  • Manages inventory management and cost stewardship, purchasing and business contract administration, and budgetary input in collaboration with direct-line manager
  • Collaborates with site management on issues pertaining to work-related injuries and illnesses
  • Participates as a member of the site's Recordkeeping Committee
  • Participates in the Occupational Health Collaboration Network by collaborating to develop policies, procedures, and best practices across the circuit
  • Prepares correspondence, reports, and presentations and serves as the administrator over all existing medical databases
  • Ensures 365-day Unit Audit Readiness
  • Maintains the physical security of the site's clinic and ensures adequate maintenance of clinic equipment
  • Oversees the site's Health and Wellness Program development and initiatives
  • Performs consultations with Refinery Leadership and Emergency Response Organization
  • Develops the Medical Clinic's staff scheduling and determines on-call availability in comparison with planned vacations and training
  • Ensures compliance with medical staff credentialing, licensure, and training requirements
  • Maintains personal professional credentialing and continuing education requirements


  • Well-developed critical thinking skills, experience in making fitness for duty decisions, and ability to show logical progression to decision-making
  • Exemplary social skills/interpersonal skills; functions well working on a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear, concise, and logical documentation for all cases
  • High integrity; ability to follow procedures
  • Ability to be a self-motivated learner, to take initiative in learning the many complex processes of the Torrance Refining Company
  • Produces excellent results; is meticulous, organized and time-conscious
  • Exhibits professionalism at all times; understands appropriate workplace behavior/communications


  • Licensed Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant or Registered Nurse required
  • Clinical role-specific training and education required
  • State Licensure specific to clinical role required
  • State Prescriptive and Distributing Authority as applicable
  • State Controlled and Dangerous Substance Licensure as applicable
  • US Drug Enforcement Agency Licensure as applicable
  • Board Certified Occupational Health Nurse or Occupational Nurse Specialist (RN/NP) / Certificate of Added Qualifications in Occupational Health (PA) strongly preferred
  • Previous experience in a high-volume clinical management role required
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (i.e. Word and Excel) required
