Vice President - Controller SUMMARY The Vice President, Controller oversees the Company's external and internal financial reporting requirements, preparation of financial results, maintenance of internal controls and the company's accounting requirements, including corporate accounting policies, technical GAAP research and external audit oversight. Manages all efforts ensuring the appropriate internal controls are in place and takes the lead role in attaining and maintaining compliance with best practices. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for a wide range of financial activity in the organization with respect to accounting functions and related activities at the global level.
  • Directs all aspects of accounting, including, but not limited to, general accounting, credit and collections, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, account reconciliation, budget preparation, cash and banking, and the preparation of consolidated financial statements and related reports.
  • Formulates and recommends policies on receipt and disbursement of funds, extension of credit, and fiscal and accounting matters.
  • Develops standard accounting, analysis and reporting procedures and is responsible for the execution of overall financial controls.
  • Manages and protects the Company's financial and capital assets.
  • Ensures that the financial reporting and policies are consistently maintained in accordance with GAAP and local statutory requirements as well as the requirements of other applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Prepares external communications to accurately reflect business results, meeting the standards of transparency, and meeting all external reporting requirements.
  • Actively and effectively manages the external audit and tax relationship.
  • Provides value-added financial reporting and analysis to support the Chief Financial Officer and other corporate and operating leaders and their staff to help them make sound financial and operational decisions, consistent with corporate objectives. This includes guidance on GAAP and other authoritative rules and regulations.
  • Applies a combination of broad managerial skills, business analytics and technical knowledge to negotiate, acquire, and deploy systems and services that improve the effectiveness and efficiencies of accounting functions across the enterprise.
  • Monitors all relevant technology and competitive threats, trends, risks, and opportunities for the corporation and acts as a visionary to define the direction for future "best-in-class" accounting methodologies and solutions.
  • Anticipates internal and external reporting changes and business requirements to ensure processes, organization and financial systems appropriately evolve to support the business. This includes staying current on accounting and reporting literature to evaluate and communicate its implications to management.
  • Leads and develops a strong accounting staff. Provides a high-performance culture characterized by teamwork, high morale, efficiency, productivity, innovation and continually measurable improvement.
  • Trains, develops, coaches and mentors the accounting staff and prepares evaluations and approves pay increases, hiring decisions and disciplinary actions.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.
    • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance to the job. JOB REQUIREMENTS
      • An undergraduate degree is required. CPA designation is highly desired.
      • At least fifteen years of relevant experience in positions of increasing responsibility within a respected organization of similar scale and dynamics.
      • At least three to five years of experience at a Controller level position which included external reporting and financial oversight responsibilities.
      • Expert knowledge of GAAP requirements and accounting functions and internal controls is required.
      • Specific experience dealing with accounting functions in a manufacturing environment and international operations is highly desirable.
      • Merger and acquisition experience, including due diligence and integrations is highly desirable.
      • Outstanding operations and systems skills, and proven ability to quickly analyze rapidly changing circumstances and provide sound financial advice.
      • Demonstrated high level of competency in the execution of a wide range of projects and deployment of best practices in a world class manufacturing environment, competency in strategic thinking and leadership with strong abilities in relationship management with customers, vendors and employees at all levels.
      • Proven ability to lead and motivate a multi-functional staff.
      • Previous work experience in audit or consulting with a major public accounting/audit firm is preferred.
      • International and multi-location accounting experience a plus.
      • Must be an effective change agent with strong strategic vision and the interpersonal and team building skills.
      • Experience with an SAP ERP environment a plus.
      • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills and have the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
        • MBA
        • Active CPA Designation

          • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
          • Ensures that staff is contributing at maximum potential through rigorous hiring practices and an emphasis on training and development initiatives, including coaching and counseling direct reports in their performance and professional development, with final authority for approving pay increases, hiring decisions and disciplinary actions.
          • Emphasizes ethical leadership and decision-making to protect Pelican's brand and reputation.
          • Establishes challenging, productive and achievable goals for direct reports; measure results by establishing checkpoints to track progress.
          • Must be able to travel, nationally and internationally, as necessary. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
            • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be constantly required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
            • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
            • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
