About this Position: -
In this role, you will report to the Sr. Manager, Digital Product
Planning/Privacy Officer and will lead the team responsible for
establishing and maintaining an enterprise vision, strategy, and
program to secure American Honda's information assets, services,
and the products that depend on them, thus building trust with
customer and stakeholders and protecting the privacy of American
Honda's customers and employees. This position will oversee and
direct the activities of the Data Privacy Team and overall American
Honda privacy governance including: driving implementation of the
privacy framework, monitoring evolving data privacy legal and
regulatory landscape, establishing data privacy compliance to
internal policies, applicable laws and regulations, managing the
day-to-day activities of the Consumer Data Privacy Team, and
initiating efforts to promote and ensure overall privacy compliance
standards meet and exceed the expectations set forth by U.S. State
and Federal regulators, Honda's executives and other leaders.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead Consumer Privacy Unit Operations:
- Accountable to Privacy Officer and executive leaders for
consumer privacy compliance and risk mitigation efforts
- Promote Privacy by Design for all enterprise activities,
including compliance with applicable data privacy laws and
regulations, privacy policies and procedures development and
maturity, third-party privacy risk assessments and risk treatment
plans, and the inventory and privacy assessment of American Honda's
critical assets containing personal information
- Advance Honda's privacy maturity through strategic planning and
proactive efforts.
- Plan, direct and organize policy, standards, compliance, and
evaluation activities related to privacy throughout American
Honda
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the Data Privacy Team.
Provide personnel and workflow management, proactively identifying
needs or issues and facilitating resolutions. Create strong
partnerships across the enterprise to accomplish goals and
strengthen relationships
- Manage and Oversee Effectiveness of Privacy Compliance:
- Maintain expertise and monitor developments in privacy &
privacy technologies. Communicate and act to ensure American
Honda's continued compliance with internal policies and applicable
laws and regulations
- Oversees privacy impact assessments and resulting compliance
activities for American Honda's enterprise projects & operations
involving consumer data
- Oversees Individual Rights Requests fulfilment with appropriate
teams to execute and ensure compliance with internal policies, data
privacy laws and regulations
- In partnership with GRC, Cybersecurity, Procurement, lead third
party and vendor privacy risk assessments. React and remediate
where needed
- Maintain privacy policies, standards, notices aligned with
internal policies, applicable data privacy laws, ensure that
procedures are effectively communicated
- Support the advancement of privacy controls including but not
limited to: Privacy Technology Tools, Loyalty Programs, Preference
Center, Cookie Management, etc.
- Assist with privacy incidents, including necessary
notifications
- Lead Enterprise Privacy Governance, Oversight and
Management:
- Maintain Honda's Privacy Steering Committee cadence
(executives), providing updates and coordinating evaluations and
approvals
- Maintain enterprise Data Privacy Council cadence (associates)
to educate and to coordinate data privacy compliance activities,
facilitating common approaches to maximize efficiency and
effectiveness of privacy compliance activities
- Provides subject matter expertise and guidance to assist
American Honda stakeholders with privacy compliance gaining
approval on recommended compliant practices
- Compliance Expertise & Education:
- Maintain International Association of Privacy Professionals
IAPP-US Privacy certification (e.g., CIPP-PM)
- Benchmark privacy best practices with industry groups (e.g.,
IAPP, NIST, FPF, AFAI, etc.)
- Coordinate regulatory review and assess privacy best practices
with Honda's Government Relations team
- Increase employee Privacy awareness and knowledge. Develop and
deliver privacy training and communications
- Satisfies special assignments as requested by management to
identify, understand, or resolve issues including those related to
data privacy risk assessments and compliance
Who we are seeking:
Required Work Experience:
- Minimum five (5) years privacy experience (such as consumer
products/services industry experience with privacy regulatory,
legal, or compliance experience, data protection standards, program
management)
- 5-10 years of people leadership including performance
management, coaching, development, etc.
- Experience drafting privacy and data protection policies
preferred
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; Work
planning and project management experience in a complex
org.
- Exceptional communication and advocacy skills, both verbal and
written, with the ability to express complex and technical issues
as understandable language within American Honda, and with other
stakeholders
- Ability to work and communicate effectively and tactfully with
all levels of executives and stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously with strong
ability to prioritize multiple tasks and respond to emergencies,
organize, and schedule work effectively
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, legal
research, and analytical skills a plus -
Required Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, or related field;
Masters degree a plus
Desired skills:
- Proficient in specialized compliance tools and processes (data
mapping, privacy impact assessments, One Trust, etc.)
- Gain and/or maintain IAPP Certified Information Privacy
Professional (CIPP) and Certified Privacy Program Manager (CIPM)
certification (at Honda's expense)
- Experience working with legal counsel
- Proficient in Office 365 (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint,
Teams, SharePoint)
- Manage and negotiate vendor relationships including review of
key contracts, RFPs, etc.

- Competitive Base Salary: $115,800 - $173,700
