Job DescriptionThe Electric Products Group at Garrett Advancing
Motion is looking for a Design Engineer to support the development
of cutting-edge new products to meet ever increasing demands of the
transportation industry. This position requires a broad
understanding of turbochargers & vehicle systems combined with
creativity and drive to develop new products based on customer
needs. Responsibility spans from concept development of complex
projects, support through test/validation and launch. The Design
Engineer leads the product design integrating all aspects from
rotor systems, mechanics to electric machine integration.
Responsibilities of the Position: Interface closely with Customers
to understand detailed Electric Products design requirements. Work
with cross-functional teams including Application Engineering,
Product Engineering, Manufacturing and Supply Base to ensure robust
designs. Use internal standards & industry experience to develop
complex systems, that meets customer specific requirements &
packaging space. Have strong focus on built in quality. Design
complex parts and assemblies, applying Design for Manufacturing,
cost & Reliability fundamentals. Lead design activity for customer
programs and manage other supporting designers. Lead design reviews
and Internal / External customer presentations. Own product life
cycle management process, from CAD Data creation to release in PLM.
Work in fast pace environment with competing requirements and
challenging deadlines. Lead designer will be responsible for
managing project milestones, scope changes & supplier issues
affecting designs, working with program managers and Lead
Engineers. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in
Mechanical Engineering 5+ years of work experience designing
mechanical and aerodynamic devices/components/systems. Mechanical
integration of Electrical and Electronic components is a plus.
Strong CAD skills. 5+ years' experience with 3D design & Drafting
complex parts & systems. Proficiency with ASME Y14.5-1994 Geometric
Dimensioning & Tolerancing. Knowledge of 2D/3D Tolerance Stack up
of complex assemblies required. Experience with Enovia PLM /
SmarTeam / Team Center PDM Systems. Significant experience in
manufacturing Metal Castings, Machining, Sheet metal forming,
Plastic injection molded parts & part assembly processes.
Additional Qualifications: Master of Science degree in Mechanical
Engineering (Preferred) A comprehensive understanding of internal
combustion engines and turbochargers Knowledge and Experience with
FEA (Finite Element Analysis), Kinematics, and/or CFD
(Computational Fluid Dynamics) Basic knowledge of High-speed
electric machine fundamentals Experience with APQP, PPAP, DFMEA &
problem-solving techniques Design for Six Sigma or Lean certified
Key Success Factors: Work independently and in a team environment,
per design requirements & details identified. Team player with a
positive attitude and will support other teams when called upon.
Ability to coordinate detail design activities with local and
global teams. Able to lead smaller team and coordinate challenging
