About this Position:

Developing and executing product and business strategy in a world of rapid technological and social change requires a highly capable, highly knowledgeable, and highly engaged team. CASE and Energy Business Unit is tasked with navigating the path for Honda's future Connected, Autonomous, Shared, Electric, and Energy products, services, and businesses. The team will focus on building and sustaining Honda's core brand values and enhancing brand image and competitiveness in the marketplace by innovating, incubating, selecting, developing, applying, and operating new businesses, features, products, and services with responsibility for their profitability, competitiveness, and customer satisfaction for Honda in North America.

This Senior Energy System Engineer II role is responsible for leading large and complex energy system and service development associated with hardware and software development. Associate must have power electronics hardware and IT server/communication system development experience for V1G, V2X and Home Energy Management Services. Working with Energy Business Subject Matter Expert, define service use cases, draw sequence diagram. This role has clear understanding of US energy and utility situation, standard and regulation and work and maintain relationship with utilities, ISOs, Public Utility Commission, aggregator and other energy related stakeholders. This position is tasked to lead a unit team and daily execution of EV Charging and New Energy Business Initiatives to provide new revenue streams to American Honda Motor (AHM) and new value to our vehicle customer through the use of managed EV charging (V1G) and discharging (V2G or Vehicle-to-Grid) of electric vehicles and Home Energy Management System (HEMS) to achieve Honda's 2030 Electrification Vision and 2050 Carbon Neutral Goal.

Focusing on future charging and energy service development, as well as regulatory compliance supporting the operation and providing new value to the Customer, the Dealer, and AHM , the associate will work with Energy business SME to lead and support tasked plans, executes, and reports on all planning and business aspects of the energy business. Executing on responsibility is a mandatory requirement to adhere to AHM's compliance requirements and manage the sustainability of the businesses. This requires frequent coordination and review of wide-ranging information, along with regular communication with external business partners providers, HM, Product Planning, Service, Quality, Sales, Finance, Customer Experience, Law, Honda Development & Manufacturing America (HDMA), Accessory Development Division (ADD), Honda Japan R&D and other pertinent business units.



Responsibilities include:



  • Work closely with Energy Business SME, lead Energy System development and conduct research for new energy business opportunities including extensive market research, service provider research, energy marketplace.
    Lead and manage technical discussion with internal/external partners. Identify potential technical issues before market launch, research resolution, create options and take
  • Manage direct reports, define assignments, track progress. Report accomplishment to senior management regular basis.


    Who we are seeking:



    Required Work Experience:

    Minimum 10 years experience automotive industry ideally in engineering, research and R&D
    Extensive experience with leading large scale research and engineering project, developing proof of concept with multiple stakeholders, such as utilities, OEMs, public utility commision, aggregators
    Creating detail use cases and sequence diagram of energy services (V1G, V2H/G)
    Defining power electronics requirement for bidirectional charging, and IT system/communication requirement specificaion (IEEE2030.5, OCA, ISO15118-20, SAE CCSI, MATTAR)
    Clear understanding of safety and other standards (UL, NEC, etc)
    Conduting multiple RFP/Q, socring and partner selection
    5 years experience leading and managing a project team
    Good negotiation skills, adept at translating technical and product value into business value
    Capable of drafting and reviewing complex contracts, agreements, and detailed scopes of work


    Required Education:

    Bachelor's degree in Power Electronics, System Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Research and R&D
    PHD is plus


    Desired skills:

    Excellent planning, negotiating, analytical and presentation skills
    Understanding of business model development
    Knowledge of Honda operations - planning, R&D, manufacturing, sales, quality, service and customer support
    Proficiency with MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel and Word)
    Function in an Agile project team as a Product Owner / LPL, Scrum Master / ALPL, or Person-In-Charge of a Functional Area for a project

    Workstyle: hybrid remote, but may come into office if needed
    Travel: 25% both domestic and international
