Job Title: Senior Operations ManagerJob Location: US-CA-TorranceCategory: Operations and QualityPosition Type: Regular Full-TimeUnion: NoOverviewJob Title: Senior Operations ManagerJob Location: Torrance, CAReporting Structure:The Senior Operations Manager, reporting directly to the Director of Operations of Stellant Systems, is a key organizational leader contributing to operations and manufacturing execution of a growing, strategic product line for the company. Direct reports to the Senior Operations Manager include 4 front line supervisors spanning a two-shift operation. Currently, total leadership responsibility is approximately 75 employees in both union and non-union job classifications. The organization is in a strong growth mode and it is expected that the successful candidate for this role moves upward in the organization with increasing scope and responsibility.Role:The Senior Operations Manager will provide hands-on leadership to the operations team within a high-energy, customer- and mission-focused environment at Stellant System's flagship facility in Torrance, California. Focus will be on the primary responsibilities of developing people, leading a high-performing team and driving continuous and sustainable improvement in operating metrics (safety, quality, on-time delivery, cost and lead time). Results will be accomplished through the use of a data driven approach to achieve process standardization and the application of lean manufacturing and operations methodologies. This role interfaces cross-functionally across the Stellant Systems organization and will coordinate with Program Management, Finance, Mission Assurance/Quality, Supply Chain, Production Planning, Manufacturing Engineering and Test Engineering functions. Additionally, in this high-visibility role, the Senior Operations Manager will have ample exposure to the C-suite executive leaders of the company.The ideal candidate will be a passionate, lean transformation champion with demonstrated success driving a "from scratch" transformation (both process and culture) and the ability to train the organization while simultaneously driving quantifiable improvement in operating metrics. The abilities to lead the establishment of production flow lines and manage in a dynamic, high mix, low volume environment are vital.Keys to success will be:Establishing production flow lines that yield visual management and predictable outputs.Increasing first pass yield (FPY) metrics that result in cost savings to the affected programs.Driving significant and sustainable on-time delivery (OTD) performance > 95% for affected programs.Building a culture across the factory that supports workforce engagement, retention and efficiency improvements.Developing cross-functional relationships in the organization that support a "one team" approach to operational execution across the business. ResponsibilitiesServe as key senior leader of manufacturing team providing leadership and strategy execution for responsible manufacturing team and day-to-day operations.Lead, engage and continuously develop all team members.Establish a strong working relationship with the workforce, in particular the bargaining unit, to foster a "one team" approach to operational success of the business.Meet functional requirements of staffing, training, talent development, engagement, retention, and overall management of area of responsibility.Ensure a healthy and safe working environment and comply with federal and state regulations through collaboration with environmental, health and safety staff.Establish and maintain an effective and clearly defined training plan for area(s) of responsibility.Meet functional organization and business annual operation plan targets.Lead Manufacturing/Operations processes as appropriate to ensure tools, processes, and staff are competitive and applicable to the business needs. Develop Manufacturing/Process Technology roadmap and required capital planning. Support pursuits and proposals in the business, including review/approval and the generation of production schedules to support proposal efforts and Basis of Estimates (BOEs) as needed.Support technical tiger teams for root cause corrective action (RCCA) assessment on programs where applicable.Communicate production strategies broadly to expedite adoption and institutionalization of best practices.Provide strong executive communication and presentation skills.Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and meet company goals while supplying expertise and guidance on operations projects and systems. Deliver progress and production reports to executive team members routinely and as requested.Perform other related duties as assigned. QualificationsEducation:Undergraduate degree is required (Engineering, Operations Management or Business is preferred).A Master's degree in similar pursuits is an advantage.Professional: A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience in an operations leadership capacity with emphasis on Space, Aerospace and/or Defense end-use products.Demonstrate business acumen and a strong understanding of the P&L and balance sheet while exhibiting a general management mindset supportive of the company's growth initiatives.Experience with high-reliability assembly processes for highly engineered Space, Defense and/or Avionics products.Possess a working knowledge of the cultural issues impacting lean implementation and demonstrated success of overcoming these issues.Experience deploying new production lines and establishing product line based flow lines.Knowledge of MIL/IPC workmanship and performance standards related to electronic assemblies.Experience in applying best practice FMEA/DFMA/DTC methodologies.Experience in lean manufacturing implementation - Six Sigma Green/Black Belt Certification a plus.Interest in continued career development and advancement, based upon performance, that will lead to progressively responsible assignments within the Torrance facility and Stellant Systems.Additional Preferred Skills:Experience leading within a union facility.Stellant Systems is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
